In a world all too focused on youth, as if romance were theirs alone, Ignacio Ruvolo has written a wonderful novel of mature romance. Carousel Three has a nice hook on the role of happenstance in how people meet, and the plot weaves together music, science, ballet, business, wine and romance in a delightful plot that bucks stereotypes while warming hearts. Check it out!
Carousel Three was a great and interesting novel. We quickly had a thorough overview of Frank and Dee Dee so that the story could begin. I really enjoyed the unique way the author introduced his characters. It was also easy to identify with many of them. I found it to be a great novel for men or women, so I quickly gave the book to my husband to read. I anxiously await Mr. Ruvolo's next novel. Diana Starr
This is a wonderfully written "slice of life" story about people who you have probably met either because they're members of your extended family or you negotiated a deal with them while doing some business. The characters are so artfully described that you know practically everything about them . . . Including their early childhood . . . And you try so hard to make "things" turn out right for them. This first time novelist knows how to make you laugh as well as sigh and the end of the book only left me wanting to keep up with their travails. Hope there's more coming !!
The invisible power of coincidence is a major thread through this first work of fiction by Ignazio Ruvolo. The book's main character, Frank Rowland, meets the love of his life, Dee McCoy, when she mistakenly picks up his suitcase from SFO's baggage claim carousel 3. Frank's son meets the love of his life at Dee Dee's ballet school. Both Frank and Dee Dee are well developed characters who navigate the complexities of love, independence, family politics, blended families, successful careers, international travel, illness and the joys of life after retirement. The author's ability to capture dialog and a sense of place is excellent. He paints a picture of the Northern California Bay Area that any resident would recognize and captures the real charm of San Francisco. The story is compelling and it isn't a coincidence that I found it difficult to put down.
Nace Ruvolo has written a great story about new love in our October years. The tale unfolds in gentle and endearing ways; readers will turn pages knowing that the next twist in this meandering narrative will evoke emotions empathy or sympathy or a smile, or perhaps memories of ones own experiences. But what makes this book exceptional is the depth with which each of the book's characters is portrayed, and even better the colorful texture used to inform readers in rich detail about the many features that bring this love story to life, including such things as ballet, clarinets, geology, the oil business and much more. A fine book; I recommend it highly.
